January 26th 2017 - Sherman Pass - Mountain 99 Road OPEN NOW

edited January 30 in Trip Reports

If anyone is thinking about going to Sherman Pass, currently the road is closed on Mountain 99 out of Kernville just north of McNally's restaurant. There is a 40 foot rock slide across the road. They will try to get the road open as soon as possible as this is the only access to Johnsondale where people live and may need emergency services. It may be just one lane for a while.

There is over 10 feet of snow at the Sherman Pass Vista. The snow is very set up and you can go just about anywhere. The riding was good today for the five of us. The Yurt is buried over half way up (see pic below) and the wood pile shed has virtually disappeared.

Bob said they plan to start grooming tomorrow if they can get up there. They plan to groom everything they are allowed to groom if they can.

I will post something when I get reports that the road is open.

  • The road is now open but careful and watch for rocks in the road.

  • Bob did a great job on the mountain. Looks like we got 3 inches of rain at blackrock this past Monday and Tuesday, maybe some snow this Friday. I will update you on Tuesday. 2-14-2017
