Thanks for the update Roy... Not too bad, sounds about what everywhere else reports for conditions. Just too bad it's already Feb!

I doubt it will stay for another week+, looks like we're parked till the next storm.

Tim, Justin, Mario and I rode Sherman Pass on Sunday 1/29/2012. This was our maiden voyage on the white stud this season. We rode over 60 miles boondocking mostly off trails 101, 102, 103, 104, and 117. The Yurt is fine out in the sun and has a sign-in sheet on the table. Please sign in when you ride to ensure we keep our funding. We rode to the Peak and the ridge north of 102 to Siretta. There was just over 2 feet at the pass and about 32 inches up on the peak. The best riding was near the peak and off the 102. Watch for the two trees down on the main trail (101) past the 104 and before the Yurt. There are also several trees down on 104 that you have to go off trail to pass. Keep praying for more snow!

How was the ride?

When I work up Sunday morning on the 30th late AM there was new snow down to about 5500 feet at the Lake ISABELLA. Mammoth reported 5 inches of new snow at the lodge.

Suppose to be in the low 30's at night all this week with rain / snow likely

Well we just had to ride again so we planned a day trip to ride Huntington. As soon as we got off trail the snow was great. We did a lot of riding in some great snow. The depths around 9000' was about 5 to 6 feet still. This will prove to be the place to ride in June!

And boy is there snow! There is 12 feet at the sled shop and all around the cabins and condos. They really got hit with snow this winter. Bear Valley is about 12.5 miles due south of Kirkwood. Highway 4 is being cleared for Memorial Day weekend and we talked to Caltrans and they are only getting about 1/4 mile a day and have 14 miles to go so they will probably not make it. But the heat is coming so that may help. With 4 closed we had to boondock around Alpine Lake and parallel 4 through the woods. Once on Hwy 4 the snow was awesome. We rode the Highlands area were there are incredible climbing areas. I guess the locals put their sleds away already as there were no tracks anywhere and we had great conditions. We couldn't believe how good the snow was. Bear Valley is definitely on our list to visit next winter.

Anyone know how the snow is at Sherman? I would like to ride in June if it lasts....

Tim and I rode Friday-Sunday April 15-17 up at Tamarack and Huntington. We were suprised to find a lot a untracked powder everywhere. We rode about 200 miles mainly off trail hill climbing with 100% coverage. There was actualy better converage then our trip in March. Just bring lots of sunscreen and little clothes as it's warm out there. There is lots of snow in the high sierras so get out and ride and be sure to post a trip report so we all know the conditions on the mountain. We're planning another trip somewhere the weekend of April 29th to May 1.

In case you weren't able to attend the CNSA Convention in Bass Lake, make a note to add this area to your 'to do' list (after the bean feed and SnowFest, of course!)

The riding is pretty awesome, lots of deep powder and serious hillclimbing, and the accommodations at The Pines are great. The trailhead is a short 15 minutes (depending on snow level) and there are miles and miles of trails.

Not sure if they have grooming (we did for convention) but that won't matter - it's worth it!

Replaced all the broken rafters with new ones, new dome and ring, and re-screwed the studs back to the floor. The roof was still in good shape and was re-used. The railing around the stove was banged up, but straightened back out..... stove and piping was untouched. Started about 10a and finished up at 3pm. Looks as good as before!

The roof of the Yurt caved in over the weekend. Forest Service Bob Frenes has all new parts to fix the roof. The plan is to get some people committed to come help on Saturday March 5th. Bob will bring all the supplies and ladders and we just need some volunteers to commit to lending a hand on Saturday. We need to get this repaired for the Bean Feed and Poker Run on March 12th.

Please respond to this post or email me directly at royallard@sugarloafers.com to confirm and I'll communicate with Bob.

Seven of us rode Sunday. We unloaded at the Big Meadow gate at 5800 foot. The road was not plowed at the beginning or end of the day. The snow was steep and deep. We played off trail and paid for that fun by digging out multiple sleds multiple times but had a blast. The video of the ride should be exciting.

The Yurt is hurt! The roof caved in. The walls and stove pipe system is untouched.
