Tim, Justin, Mario and I rode Sherman Pass on Sunday 1/29/2012. This was our maiden voyage on the white stud this season. We rode over 60 miles boondocking mostly off trails 101, 102, 103, 104, and 117. The Yurt is fine out in the sun and has a sign-in sheet on the table. Please sign in when you ride to ensure we keep our funding. We rode to the Peak and the ridge north of 102 to Siretta. There was just over 2 feet at the pass and about 32 inches up on the peak. The best riding was near the peak and off the 102. Watch for the two trees down on the main trail (101) past the 104 and before the Yurt. There are also several trees down on 104 that you have to go off trail to pass. Keep praying for more snow!

Well we just had to ride again so we planned a day trip to ride Huntington. As soon as we got off trail the snow was great. We did a lot of riding in some great snow. The depths around 9000' was about 5 to 6 feet still. This will prove to be the place to ride in June!

Tim and I rode Friday-Sunday April 15-17 up at Tamarack and Huntington. We were suprised to find a lot a untracked powder everywhere. We rode about 200 miles mainly off trail hill climbing with 100% coverage. There was actualy better converage then our trip in March. Just bring lots of sunscreen and little clothes as it's warm out there. There is lots of snow in the high sierras so get out and ride and be sure to post a trip report so we all know the conditions on the mountain. We're planning another trip somewhere the weekend of April 29th to May 1.

In case you weren't able to attend the CNSA Convention in Bass Lake, make a note to add this area to your 'to do' list (after the bean feed and SnowFest, of course!)

The riding is pretty awesome, lots of deep powder and serious hillclimbing, and the accommodations at The Pines are great. The trailhead is a short 15 minutes (depending on snow level) and there are miles and miles of trails.

Not sure if they have grooming (we did for convention) but that won't matter - it's worth it!

The roof of the Yurt caved in over the weekend. Forest Service Bob Frenes has all new parts to fix the roof. The plan is to get some people committed to come help on Saturday March 5th. Bob will bring all the supplies and ladders and we just need some volunteers to commit to lending a hand on Saturday. We need to get this repaired for the Bean Feed and Poker Run on March 12th.

Please respond to this post or email me directly at royallard@sugarloafers.com to confirm and I'll communicate with Bob.

Seven of us rode Sunday. We unloaded at the Big Meadow gate at 5800 foot. The road was not plowed at the beginning or end of the day. The snow was steep and deep. We played off trail and paid for that fun by digging out multiple sleds multiple times but had a blast. The video of the ride should be exciting.

The Yurt is hurt! The roof caved in. The walls and stove pipe system is untouched.

Sherman Snow was epic. We rode on Sunday and the weather was sunny with clear blue skies all day. There was lots of deep powder everywhere. We rescued three of four sleds that were abandoned off the Summit. Watch for the new video with highlights of the rescue. More snow is coming so get your snorkels out.

Wow... The snow is holding good at Sherman as the Pass marker is still very close to 8 feet. The new snow on 1/30/2011 covered most of the tracks and left a little powder on the ground making this an exceptional riding day. There were about 20 sleds on/off the trail. Watch for this week’s video to hit the site.

Pray for this next storm to rock the mountain!

Went to Sherman Pass on Saturday. The snowpark is at the same point and is cleared well to turn around a four place trailer. The snow is solid in the morning so you have to get off the trail to cool down. Bob has most of the mountain groomed. The riding was great and about 15 sleds out on the trails.

Here's the scoop. The snow park is about 6,750 foot elevation. It's at a wide spot in the road. To get my four place enclosed trailer turned around we had to dig out some snow. For the most part Sherman Pass road is dry but watch out for the slide area on Mountain 99 just north of the dam. There's several hundred feet of ice/snow covered road so drive with caution. The trail from the snow park to the summit was a bit bumpy but ok for all levels of riders. The snow was set up and prime for climbing which we did a lot of. Justin, Tim and I trekked to the Peak arriving around 4:15pm. On the way we crossed 117 several times and some of the markers were covered with snow so I stomped the snow down so others could see them. The peak had the most snow I've seen. The wind was blowing about 30 MPH so we headed down the north side and boon docked to the pass before we ran out of daylight. A good day was had by about 20 riders at Sherman. We can't wait until Bob can get the groomer up there and widen the snowpark and turn the trails into fresh carpet.

The conditions were totally different then we expected. There were a couple of inches of very dry powder on top of a very firm base. Some spots on the trail are very hard and icy making it very easy to lose traction. There was a particularly tough spot on the way up to Portuguese Pass from Sugarloaf if you stay on the main trail, so be careful.

We did a lot of playing around the Baker area. Over there the snow wasn't too icy and made for some good fun.

Just wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone in the club. It's hard to believe I moved to Michigan 5 and a half years ago. I'm driving truck over the road and I'm usually in S. Cal about twice per month. I'll be out there for Christmas visiting my daughter in Lake Isabella. I miss snowmobiling with everyone out there. Have a safe riding season and maybe I'll see some of you this winter. I keep my gear on board just in case.

Robbie, Tim, Justin and I took a road trip up 395 and road 3 different areas on Friday through Sunday.

We rode from Bridgeport to the Historic town of Bodie and then to the Nevada state line. In some areas the snow was perfect and others it was wind blown. Friday was sunny to cloudy with no snowfall. We rod as high as 10,600 feet.

On Saturday we rode from Bridgeport West to 10,050 Ricky Peak. The snow was better as some of the areas are protected from the wind. The climbing was awesome for sure. It snowed off and on all day.

Sunday we rode closer to home and tore up the east side of 395 at Mammoth and never rode south of the rest area that's closed. We rode up to Bald Mountain lookout and through the trees. The traisl are groomed and in good shape with plenty of snow. We didn't ride the trails but a couple of miles but they were excellent. It was sunny in the morning and started to snow pretty good in the afternoon.

It was a great trip with great friends. Even Timmy!

Rode Sherman Saturday and the snow is awesome. There is 6 feet at the summit. Bob and Eric started grooming Saturday and will finish up Monday. The trails are in great shape. The snow is stilll soft and deep off trail which makes for great boondocking. We rode to the Yurt and Don Brown and his dsughter was there from the West side and Mike Garland and his wife and son were there and came in from the East side. Mike reported unloading at Kennedy Meadows so the snow is low on that side.

The snow conditions were very nice. We rode off trail most of the day. There was decent coverage, but we did end up finding a few too many trees and rocks under the nice fluff.

Anybody riding to Pondorosa from Sugarloaf be aware of the rock in the trail a mile or so past the cattle crossing. It hurts!.

Steve, Lucas, and Stephen Burke went riding this past Saturday. 75 miles of great snow and fresh meadows. We rode trail 101 up to Black Rock. We then doubled backed to the yurt to eat a little lunch. After the snack, we headed to Poloma Meadow for some fun in deep powder. Went back down the 101 to trail 102 and hit Mosquito Meadow where we found more untouched snow. Two other groups, five riders total, were enjoying the trails along side us. The base looks great and there should be great riding all winter long!
