Bob Fernes of the NPS does the grooming on OHV issued equipment. He is out of the Kernville office and stays up at Blackrock when he grooms.

    yes you can do this.

is it possible for me to ride from sherman to kennedy , or have a friend ride from kennedy and meet me on the trail as i ride from sherman

Trail is 101 or Sherman roade. It is all snow from the Sherman/lower Kern and a little patch (less than 100 yards) on the Kennedy side.

If you both ride the 101 you will meet between the yurt and bald mountain turn off. Less than an hour each to ride. About 13-17 miles each total 25-35 miles.

BUT there is a short cut (ungroomed) from Troy
eadow to the Bald mountain which will save considerable distance/time for the rider coming from Kennedy.

Sherman Pass not groomed. Still waiting for parts and snowcat is brokedown about a mile north of Blackrock station.
FS Bob says parking below 7000 spot but can go past road closed sign to unload. About a half mile past road closed sign to miss any bald spots on the road.
Snow is starting to set up and long tracks only for off trail. Short tracks could ride ungroomed trails if following other sleds.
Since ungroomed watch out for drifts and steep cut wind pockets on the trail. Be safe.
Trails to remain open for sledding and tree planting this year will be in the Big Meadow area accesses thru Horse meadow turnoff[b]

Rode Sherman yesterday and today with my son. Still spots of snow on the road and unload at the wide spot below the main stage area. Tough to get turned around or fit many rigs due to the unplowed snow in the area. Really could use a good plow job. 8 ft at the vista pole, snow is frozen till about 10-11 am, then it softens up and then it's go anywhere....... fun boondocking. Still a good cover at the saddle approaching Bald Mtn., so you can still access Blackrock, eastern trails, etc....
Groomer is now out of the road and parked at Blackrock.

Groomer is supposed to be fixed today and then grooming to resume on Monday after Easter. I rode on Friday at Sherman the the snow was great after 11 as Mike said. It's time to get on the mountain as it's go anywhere snow. I'm planning a trip to Sherman on Saturday 4/3/10.

Good to see you Roy on Friday. We had a good campout and rode all 3 days. Got alot of off trail and up to Sherman Peak and beyond (probably your tracks we followed). Still 7 ft at the vista... hopefully get some more with this storm. Going to hit Mammoth this weekend, maybe one more Sherman trip mid-April. Glad to hear Bob has the groomer "almost" fixed.

I doubt they groom again cause it might reduce the life of the snow on the trail
