Four of us went up the Kennedy Meadows side this last Sunday. The snow was down way low so we unloaded at the bridge in Kennedy Meadows. There was probably four or five inches on the ground in Kennedy and it just got deeper as we went up.
Once we got past the four way and the Black Rock ranger station the snow was three to four feet deep and not the least bit set up. We had two first timer's with us and spent the entire morning digging out stuck sleds. We made it to the 115 and turned around to finds some lower ground with better compaction, or at least, less depth to dig out of. I'm sure Oso, Horse, and Powell would have been epic with some experienced riders on mountain sleds.
We ended up playing around in Troy Meadows, the 101, 109, and the 108.
We got back to the truck about 4:30 and the snow had melted off the road a bit. We crossed a few asphalt patches in the last mile down to the river.
